Main implications

This reform updated widowhood allowances for widowed individuals aged 65 and over by increasing the regulatory base of widowhood allowances of the beneficiaries from 52 to 60 per cent. This reform amended Article 175 of the Royal Decree on the Revised Act of Social Security (20 June 1994) for orphanhood allowances, including all economically dependent or disabled children of the deceased, regardless of the legal nature of the affiliation.

This reform updated of the regulatory base of widowhood allowances of the beneficiaries aged 65 and over from 52 to 60 per cent. This reform amended Article 175 of the Royal Decree on the Revised Act of Social Security (20 June 1994) for orphan-hood allowances: - All children of the deceased, regardless of the legal nature of the affiliation, were entitled to receive an allowance. - For children under the age of 21 or disabled. - For children who are not working or if the total annual income does not exceed the minimum inter-professional salary, the age threshold is 25 years (effective date: 1 January 2014). This age will be progressively increasing (23 years in 2012 and 24 years in 2013).
