Two different set of criterias apply for taking leave and receiving payment: eligibility criteria to take parental leave: all employees with one year of experience in the firm are eligible; 2 months notice before taking leave, or one month if it follows maternity leave eligibility to leave benefit (CLCA): having paid social contributions for at least 8 trimesters within the 2 years preceding the birth of a fist child, 4 years for a second birth and 5 years for a third child and over.

Who is entitled to opt for parental leave according to this document?

All employees with one year of experience in the firm are eligible to parental leave; 2 months notice before taking leave is required, or one month if it follows maternity leave. Criteria to receive the cash benefit:8 trimester of social contribution within the 2 years preceding the birth of a first child, with the 4 years preceding the birth of a second child, within the 5 years preceding the birth of a third child or more.

Months of parental leave guaranteed by the State, stipulated by this document

Up to three years of parental leave (ends when the child reaches his third birthday), but the 2014 law has introduced a limit in the period for which each parent can receive the benefit. This period varies with birth order: - 1rst child: each eligible parent can receive the benefit for 6 months - 2nd child and more: one parent can receive the benefit for a maximum of 2 years, and the other period can receive it for the remaining period within a total of 3 years for the family.

Calculation of financial support

Fixed amount 576,24 euros per month in 2014.

Flexibility to use leave entitlements (e.g. part-time option, simultaneous or separated use by parents)

Parents can take parental leave at the same time, but only one care allowance by household. Part-time options are available.
