Special data for the selected policy/category: Age range: Section 50 (1) In general, the child shall become obliged to attend compulsory education from the calendar year in which – before the exact date was determined by separate legal regulation – he or she reaches the age of six years. The beginning date of compulsory education shall be determined on the basis of the maturity of the child. (2) Compulsory education lasts until the end of the school year in which the student reaches the age of 16. (3) In the case of students with physical, sensory, mental, speech, or other handicaps, compulsory education may be extended by one or two school years, at the latest until the end of the school year in which they reach the age of 18. Section 53 (1) The child obliged to fulfil compulsory education may be, in justified cases, exempted from the fulfilment of compulsory education if he or she has absolved primary education, and does not attend secondary school or any other type of education.
