Main implications

The act is designed to:

1. Prevent, treat, and facilitate to cope with illness, injury, suffering, and disability;

2. Promote social security andbetter living conditions for the disadvantaged, in order to contribute to equality, and prevent social problems;

3. Ensure that the individuals have the opportunity to live independently and have an active and meaningful existence in community with others;

4. Assure support quality and equal services;

5. Ensure interaction and availability of services for patients and clients, and guarantee that the offer is tailored to individual needs;

6. Ensure that the services respect the integrity and dignity of the individuals; and

7. Ensure the optimal use of the resources.

The act applies to health services that are offered or provided in the realm of municipal or private hospitals under an agreement with the municipality, unless otherwise stated by this act.
