Decree on the organisation of school time in kindergartens and elementary schools

Main implications

This decree introduces an additional half-day of school (Wednesday mornings). It also provides for the establishment of a school week of 24 hours of education spread over nine half-days. Teaching hours are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Wednesday mornings at a maximum of five and a half hours per full day and a maximum of three and a half hours per half-day. Teaching on Saturday mornings, instead of Wednesday mornings, can be exceptionally permitted when it is justified by specific territorial and educational projects.

Comments & Clarifications

The decree is effective staring from the academic year 2013-14. However, municipalities and schools can request to postpone the application of the law until the following academic year.
